Beyond Victimhood and Education: Peace building in Jammu and Kashmir Team JKCPJ meets Farooq Dar of Khansahib Budgam
Taking its program “Beyond Victimhood” further –one of its kind in Kashmir – a team
of Jammu and Kashmir Centre for Peace and Justice (JKCPJ) met Farooq Ahmad Dar
at Khansahab Budgam on 18th of May 2018. Farooq Dar, an embroidery artisan of ChillBrass Budgam was tied to a jeep by Army on April 9, 2017, and paraded through many
villages in Budgam when by-polls were being held for the Srinagar-Budgam
parliamentary constituency.
Farooq Ahmad Dar told the JKCPJ team that he is finding it very difficult to resume
his normal life and the work of Shawl-weaving which would ensure his self-sufficiency.
“I had cast my vote on a fateful day but was still resorted to worst kind of torture,
besides no mainstream politician tried to contact me,” Dar told JKCPJ. Dar said, “I was
victimized by everyone, no one helped me to get rid of my depression and helplessness.
I have confined myself to a single room and it hurts me that I am unable to help my
octogenarian father in making the ends meet.” The JKCPJ team assured Farooq Ahmad
Dar that the JKCPJ will help him to fight all the sufferings that he is going through, be
it psychological or economic. Jammu and Kashmir Centre for Peace and Justice have
pledged to take necessary steps for ensuring that Farooq Ahmad gets back to work so
that to lead a self-sufficient and meaningful life.
